Finished Object: Calcifer Socks for Sockapaloooza

Have you guys seen Howl's Moving Castle by Hayao Miyazaki yet? As I was watching it, I looked over at these finished socks and thought "Wow, they're the same color!" Calcifer, if you've never seen the movie or read the book, is a fire demon with a mysterious connection to Howl. I can say no more because if you don't know the story it would give it aaaall away. But I recommend it highly!

Pattern: Feather And Fan from the book Socks Socks Socks!
Yarn: Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in color: Bittersweet
How long it took: An estimate of about 24 hours cumulative.

They were fun socks, but I got burnt out. And now that I'm thinking "Gee, I want to knit something, I guess I can start another sock", I can't find my little silver sock-knitting bag. Maybe it's a sign?

P.S. I realize it's not mandatory to add anything to the Sockapaloooza package, but have those of you who are veterans done so? And what did you add?

By the way, Happy St. Patrick's Day! Too bad I'm not Irish. And that I don't drink. But I have an unfinished Arizona Green Tea (for my raging tummy troubles) and if I weren't going to bed, I'd drink a toast to you Irish and your Saint of the Patrick. Instead, have an Irish Celtic Podcast just for the season! And wish Marc Gunn a merry one because it's his birthday. And I think he might be irish, I don't know, but he likes the music so he's cool with me.

  1. OMG! Thank you so much for mentioning the name of the Miyazaki(?) movie. I saw the first half of it one night and was mesmerized, but never finished it, and since I didn't know the name of it I could never rent it... Oh boy! I can't wait to watch it in its entirety.

BTW I'm a first-time sockpaller, and I am including "extras" in my sockbox. I have been the recipient of so much spontaneous generosity on the part of other knitters, I cannot help but pass it on!

  2. Oh, they're beautiful! So delicate looking.

I am still trying to find something new, fun and unique to add to my sock pal's box...

  3. Oooh, very nice with the bold colors and the delicate lace. Great combination!

  4. My sock pal is kind of young and fairly new to sock knitting so I'll be adding a few things to her package - a needle gauge, some stitch markers, two chibis (orange and blue), and possibly a few more little things.

Hi there! I got my socks last night, and I love that they have a name. They are everything mentioned: bright, delicate and beautiful. I am very happy with my Calcifer socks (I've seen several of the animator's movies--not Howl's yet, we'll have to check it out)! You do beautiful detailed work--and thank you for the thoughtful extras! My little patch of "land" in front of my Brooklyn, NY home will be glorious with the colors of Utah wildflowers. And I've hidden the chocolates from my husband! Thank you again, Jen
