blech

I'm so sweaty from running. I enjoy it but at night I am not a bit queasier than I am in the morning. Durn water and heavy stomachs.

But yes, I had finished the Radiance Cabled Jacket but, well, it lacks a button band. And putting in a crocheted edge just causes an unfortunate series of gaps. So, after consulting with Libilou at the knitting group at our new and beautiful place, the Chocolate (and Dessert) Cafe in Orem, I have decided to just unravel the row, add a few yarn overs and some more rows and voila! button band.

The Magic Mirror socks are coming along but I've been busy and I've been lazy and I've been doing other things. Such is life.

I started reading Trader by Charles deLint and though heaven spare me from wanting to strangle him when yet another character sings the praises of Saint Jilly (she is in nearly EVERY DANG BOOK and she is always soooo marvelous and everyone loooves her and everyone's so curious about her dark and mysterious past that she refuses to acknowledge ever with her unfailing cheeriness--HEY CHUCKY, EVER HEAR OF A MARY SUE???) it still seems interesting, about a couple of guys who somehow trade bodies. Knowing deLint, this won't be some goofy sweet Freaky Friday but something very spiritual. There might even be some tribal mythology. I am very rarely disappointed with deLint, which is why Jilly probably ticks me off so very badly. It's just a stupid Mary Sue that he's so attached to when he has so many other, more enchanting characters.

Finally, I want to share an earworm.

Happiness

I remember reading Julie of the Wolves and something that forever stuck with me was the idea that if you're not happy, to change what you're doing. I should take that advice a LOT more often.

Yesterday mom and I were discussing the bill for yet another semester at Excelsior Online. Now, I was trying to psych myself up to take the Clinicals again to get my RN but not only was I hesitant to go through the whole emotional trauma but I also didn't want to have to pay $2k on top of the price of traveling and staying at a hotel. So mom and I discussed it and we both decided, it was time to quit. Time to walk away.

But that doesn't mean that I'm walking away from my dreams. There is a good university nearby with a good nursing program with an option to stop once I got my associates. However, I think I will go straight for my Bachelor's.

And I am incredibly thrilled for it.

Haiti

Prayers have been said and it seems already that many have been answered. But what really impresses me is that so much help is already there.

I think I need to increase my fast offering.

2010!!!

It's always the first week of the new year where I am really jazzed up. I expect a lot out of this year but I'm wise enough to realize that if I want anything out of this year, I have to put a lot more into it.

For one, I want to be more social. So I went to ward prayer and socialized. I went to the ice-skating rink and socialized. I went to church and didn't get a new calling socialized. Yeah, go me!

I also want to run another 5k. The Santa Run was incredibly exciting and it was such a rush. So now I'm resolved to walk and run every day excepting weekends on my treadmill. I haven't decided what my first 5k of 2010 will be, but I do know that I want to run it straight, no walking. So, I'm planning on maybe April to do that? Perhaps May. As long as it's not too cold.

I have no weight-loss goals. Numbers don't work on me, I don't really care about pounds or sizes. My body seems to have settled where it is and that's fine by me.

I do intend on eating better, though. More fiber, more fruits, more veggies, less crap. Not doing so well with that at the moment. It has to do with Christmas leftovers but eh, Christmas/New Year's comes once a year. Why not live a little?

I did quite a bit of crafting for people for Christmas this year. I crocheted a cloche for one friend and an amigurumi for another...actually, if I'm going to break down what I knitted for others, I might as well make it a good list:

Salto - These are for my aunt and I haven't given them to her yet. But they were a good knit.

Then, a pair of Marquis Gauntlets but I didn't manage to get them finished before Laura went off to Armenia (where the trees are made of wood!).

Then I made a pair of Fox-Faces Socks (Ravelry Link) for my sister:

And my bro needed a Manly Motorcycle Scarf (pdf link):

Mom got a beautiful Damson made with Mean Girl Yarn in Heartless Tart:

My niece, Jordyn, got a pair of Angel Socks:

My friend Kristy got an Argent amigurumi:

And then I made a Cloche (Ravelry Link) for my friend Melanie:

And finally I thought I ought to make something for Emily so I whipped up a pair of Queen City Mitts:

I've been busy and I'm happy to just work on my own things. For now.
